Welcome to the Oglethorpe University webpage for Jessica Handler.

I’m the Visiting Lecturer in English, and I teach courses in Creative Writing, Screenwriting, Playwriting, Adapting Prose to Screen, Long Form Literary Essay, Autobiography and Biography… we write rigorously in my classes, and we examine how writers work.

Check the RESOURCES tab often for updates about writing-related special events on campus and in the Atlanta area.

I’m the author of two books: Invisible Sisters: A Memoir and Braving the Fire: A Guide to Writing About Grief and Loss.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte, and a BS in Communications from Emerson College.

Sometimes I give interviews to the media about how hard it is to write, and how rewarding.
