Research & Publications

My primary area of interest is the history of late medieval and early modern Central Europe.

Most of my work has been centered on the region of Franconia, although I also have strong interests in the surrounding regions–Swabia, Bavaria, Thuringia, and the Czech lands. My current project is a study of the witch hunts in Bamberg in the early seventeenth century. One of my general concerns is the relationship between religion and policitcs, both on the level of the state, as well as within villages.I have also published on questions of political theory and resistance theory.
